Course Overview

After successfully completing the course, students should be able to:

  • List the priorities, roles and responsibilities of first aid rescuers
  • Describe the key steps in first aid
  • Remove protective gloves
  • Find the problem
  • Describe the assessment and first aid actions for the following life threatening conditions: heart attack; difficulty breathing; choking; severe bleeding; shock; and, stroke.
  • Use an epinephrine pen
  • Control bleeding and bandaging
  • Recognize elements of common injuries and illnesses
  • Describe how to find information on preventing illness and injury
  • Recognize the legal questions that apply to first aid rescuers

At course completion, students receive an electronic American Heart Association (AHA) certification card, which lasts 2 years from certification date.

2020 CPR and First Aid Class
Monday, February 24, 2020

Course Specifics  - PLEASE READ

The course will be on Monday, February 24 and runs from 9am – 3:30pm, check in begins at 8:45am.  Course includes breaks and a 30 minute lunch period.  Lunch is not provided.

Participants use both adult and infant manikins for CPR/AED instruction.   AED trainers are available for hands on AED training.

The American Heart Association does not have a minimum age requirement to learn CPR.  The ability to perform CPR is based more on body strength than age.  Studies have shown that children as young as nine years old can learn and retain CPR skills.

This course is open to Westside School students and parents as well as others outside the school community.

 

Course Payment Details

Payment is required prior to the start of the course.  The cost of the course is $90, which includes a $10 contribution to the WPA.

If unable to attend the course, contact Jen Howe for waitlist information. If there is no waitlist, you are responsible for finding a replacement.  If the seat cannot be filled, no refund is provided and course amount is considered a WPA donation.  The no refund policy if seat is unfilled is to ensure the WPA is able to cover the cost of the course and meet the minimum requirement for the course to continue.
