Cynthia Voth & Joanna Bond return to help kids get in touch with their bodies, strengthen and relax their muscles, and develop coordination, focus and confidence.  Each class will include sharing, breathing/centering (pranayama), postures (asana), games that incorporate the postures, and a closing relaxation.  Yoga can be a fun exercise for kids.  Be sure to wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat.


Chess
First –Fifth Grades

Learn to play chess, or practice what you already know!  Chess can strengthen problem solving skills, teach children to make difficult and abstract decisions and enhance math abilities memory and critical thinking skills. This is a really fun brain activity.

Mad Science
First – Fifth Grades

Jill’s Second Grade Room
During this next session your child may experiment with kinetic energy, use science to uncover art forgeries, conduct cool chemical reactions, discover what life is like underwater as we discuss buoyancy and adaptation, go "wild" studying zoology, and much, much more. Every class also builds awesome take-homes to share the Mad Science experience with family and friends!  Your child will have so much fun it is hard to believe that they are actually learning at the same time.

"Nick and Peter's Piano Extravaganza!
First – Fifth Grades

Come and learn how to play all your favorite songs on the piano in the after school Piano Club with Nick and Peter.  You'll get to learn how to play songs, read sheet music, write your own songs, and shred!   From Justin Beiber, Hannah Montana, Selena Gomez, to The Beatles and Weezer, we'll show you how to rock the tunes that you like!   Each participant will have the use of their own keyboard and headphone (provided).


Wednesdays

Machine Sewing
First – Fifth Grades
Five week session begins January 12th
3:30-4:30

This class will use full sized sewing machines.  Sewing machine safety is taught to students prior to beginning any project. Students then choose which project they would like to work on next.  Students will assemble pre-cut fabric pieces to make their projects.  Students may create tote bags, American Girl and stuffed animal accessories, fleece hats and other fun items.
Acoustic Guitar
Second – Fifth Grades
Five week session begins January 12th

Preston’s 4th grade classroom
Preston will be teaching a beginning guitar class.  Students will learn basic chords while having extreme FUN.  Students need to have their own guitar so they can practice at home.

Jumprope
Kindergarten-Fifth Grades

The Ropeworks after-school jump rope program incorporates a unique approach to teaching rope jumping through a “smart sequencing” method of skill development, combined with our special focus on character education.  Using the rope as a working metaphor for goal setting, best effort and avoiding comparing ourselves with others we can use the rope as a lesson to convey positive messages.

Director Rene Bibaud, world rope jumping champion, artist and coach of Cirque Du Soleil and creator of Ropeworks designs the curriculum, and classes are taught by Ropeworks certified staff.

Gotta Dance!

Children are most receptive to new information when they’re having fun, so in this class, we play games to help us both develop dance skills and learn to express our creative, artistic selves.  These two things work together to open up the endless possibilities of movement held within our dancing bodies.





Dance This!

Each week we’ll learn a different dance style, including hip-hop, jazz, ballet, modern, improve, swing, African, and more!!  No prior experience necessary.  Great fun will be had by all.

Woodworking
First – Fifth Grades

This is a great opportunity for kids who love to work with their hands.  All students will be instructed on how to assemble the pre-cut pieces of wood into works of art!  Instruction will be given on how to properly construct, sand and paint.  This promises to be a really cool class.
